The idea
This film started with my personal relationship with materialism, there are so many advertisement around us that it is difficult to distinguish where true happiness is coming from.
The smile shop was one of the ideas there were other concepts as well initially about people wearing complete paper bags on their heads which highlighted the various fancy brands they owned. I focused on children because I felt its a very influential age and the decisions made at that point tend to stay with us for a ling time subconsciously.

I had close to six ideas that corresponded to various themes, so I ended up creating a flow chart of what each idea stood for to understand my priority amongst it.
Initial Drawings

Final Animatic
In most of my films I jump straight into animatics, because it helps me get the timing in place along with the visuals. This was the 5th draft of the animatic.
Character & Prop Design

The human characters took a lot of iterations. The main challenge was to figure out the joints that can hold a position and have some weight to it. I came up with the character design while Christopher, devised the joints.

The tree took a lot of iterations, we tried actual wood, paper and finally settled on a wire joint with white Mseal. the tree was finalised and we ready for the shoot when the rig broke a day before the shoot, that made us reconsider the material and we went ahead
